Physic

Thesis
Physic is an intervention app, meaning it gets in the way of doing things that we’ve become too accustomed to in order to shift habits and rewire our brains for the long-run. Specifically, it blocks everything on your smartphone other than your telephone via timed sessions, in order to promote a re-engagement with the physical world as well as single-tasking and deep focus. With that said, we do not expect anyone to fully rid themselves of digital technology use. We are fully reliant upon it as a society, and temporary distraction as well as leisurely technology use can be beneficial. Rather, we are promoting a greater awareness of how it effects our minds, how often it should be used, and in what ways it should be used. The power of digital technology in a rich information age is undoubtedly strong, and we’re here to make sure that this power stays within our human control.

Along with the app are 6 double-sided posters that the user can order for free or purchase for $10. The front sides contain one of the brands core beliefs along with the title of the poster itself around the edges. The backsides either contain information about our brand, or guidelines on how to use it. The next four posters contain more specific and educational information - one focusing on self-awareness and attention, one focusing on physical interaction and nature, one focusing on how to get work done, and the last one on how to take productive breaks. While they are meant to be educational, they are also meant to facilitate routine-building and habit-shifting by acting as a physical home-base.
